A Time For Choosing

May 2, 2010

After the unfortunate conclusion to the health care debate (in case you’re under a rock, the bill passed), I stepped back and reflected for a while. My main reason was I wanted to figure out exactly how best to help deal with what was happening in front of us–it’s easy to identify the problem. The government is out of control, doing MANY things it shouldn’t be doing (regulating light bulbs and toilets, undermining states like Arizona trying to do the job they won’t do, attacking whatever area of the private sector that it dislikes at the moment, etc.) But what do I do? I’m just a guy.

Then I started reading two books that came out recently: Sean Hannity’s Conservative Victory and an even BETTER aide, Dick Morris’ 2010: Take Back America: A Battle Plan.

After reading and considering what’s happening, here’s what I’m advising what everyone who wants the country to change course to do:

1. Find out who your representative is in the U.S. House. I’m AMAZED how many people I talk to have no clue who represents them in Congress. It’s easy to figure out. Go to this website and enter your zip code+4. The person that comes up is your U.S. House representative. Congratulations.

2. Is your representative fighting against Nancy Pelosi’s agenda? Is he/she a Democrat? If he/she is worthy of support, support him! If he/she is NOT, if she’s a Democrat, figure out who’s running against him/her and support the opponent. You can contribute funds, volunteer time, use the social media. Contact the opponent’s campaign and ask what you can do. You’ll be surprised how happy people in campaigns will be to find anyone to be of help.

3. Repeat the process in the Senate. 1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election. Find out if your state has a U.S. Senate race (mine does, and I’m backing Richard Burr for re-election.) Find the most conservative alternative (if your Senator is a liberal) who has a legitimate chance for winning and SUPPORT him. Do it now. Primary season is upon us.

4. Don’t forget to register to vote. Lots of people forget that simple step.

5. Vote in the Republican primary. Find out when and where your precinct is and go vote! Support the most effective person possible to blunt the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda.

6. Adopt a candidate. If you live in Virginia or Maine or any state that doesn’t have a Senate race this year, find a candidate to support who you believe can best advance the cause of liberty. I’ll include a list of people I endorse here:

Pat Toomey (PA)
Marlin Stutzman (IN)
Chuck Devore (CA)
Marco Rubio (FL)
Danny Tarkanian (NV)
Rand Paul (KY)
Todd Tiahrt (KS)

I highly recommend getting either of the books referenced above. Both provide many in-depth ways to make a difference this fall.

Let’s get to work! :)
